AMBULATE-CM
New paradigm for emergency transport services management
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the emergency services, and especially the ambulance service, experienced an unprecedented increase in requests for their services. In particular, for the ambulance service, the overload of requests was such that it resulted in an unprecedented deterioration of response times. This impacted not only the management of ambulances to transport COVID-19 patients, but also patients with other serious and urgent pathologies.
As has been observed, the response to this situation must be coordinated and involve various actors such as the public and the health authorities so that the necessary capacities and resources can be mobilized in the most efficient and optimal way. This must be done as efficiently as possible in terms of the use of time, available places in hospitals, all this also taking into account, among others, the factor of health and morbidity of these people, always within a regulatory framework that legally guarantees an effective implementation.
The overall objective of the multidisciplinary project AMBULATE-CM is the design of an advanced, sustainable and dynamic solution for ambulance service management in a pandemic situation. This will require the design of new strategies and protocols to ensure an agile, effective and dynamic response to the management of patient transport and, in particular, of ambulances to ensure rapid and adequate patient care.
