AEI – Proyectos de Colaboración Público-Privada

In the coming years, the Intelligent Systems Lab (LSI) of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid is going to develop, together with a Spanish public-private consortium, a new project in the railway field where the maintenance of railway infrastructure and freight train operations in Spain and Europe will be improved. The project focus on new technical advances to improve and optimize freight rail corridors through new metrics and rules based on the design and development of software with artificial intelligence, such as the fusion of algorithms to detect defects in the railway track using computer vision and Lidar techniques, together with algorithms that understand the adverse weather conditions of the environment using sensors in freight trains. In addition, this project will also merge data from the planning of rail freight corridors and GNSS positioning using the Galileo satellites of the European Union.
